He currently serves as President of Lyco Works Inc., an innovation, intellectual property, and technical consulting firm. Jason is recognized by IAM Magazine as a leading Intellectual Property Strategist, and Jason currently serves on the board of a new insulating packaging materials startup - Triple Point Innovations LLC. Jason's business experience includes IP valuation, licensing, patent protection strategy, and technology transfer. He is a trained negotiator and an accomplished dealmaker. Jason bought and sold patented technology as a full time job for Kimberly-Clark and Newell Brands for ten years. Since 2016, Jason also serves as VP of Technology & Patent Strategy at Slingshot Product Development Group. At Slingshot, we conceive, prototype, develop and commercialize a wide range of products for other companies, on a fee-for-service basis. Recent contributions include a new hypodermic needle for farm animals, a roof measuring device, a water conditioner, a diagnostic device, and more. Slingshot was also the source of the technology behind Triple Point Innovations' thermally insulating paper. Technical: Jason's technical experience includes areas as such as consumer products, packaging, photochemistry, organic chemistry, printing technology, quantum mechanical molecular modeling, light-fastness and photofading. Jason previously conducted digital imaging research for Kimberly-Clark and Imperial Chemical Industries PLC., as well as textile fiber development with Courtaulds. He is a Chartered Colorist, and has specialist training and experience in photochemistry, dyes, pigments, polymers, inks, paints, plastics, color physics, visual color perception, printing, dispersion, and ink jet. Jason has experience with coloration technology, color perception, dyeing textiles, including cotton, polynosics, cellulosics, nylon, poly(propylene) (PP), PET, wool, silk, and acetate. He is also a co-inventor on 24 issued US Patents in diverse industrial fields, and has helped commercialize numerous new products, including digital inks and media, veterinary instruments, and consumer products. Jason holds a Ph.D. in Fiber and Polymer Science from NC State University, and a B.S. in Color Chemistry from the University of Leeds in the UK. Past Industrial Experiences: Jason recently served as CTO at Heat Technologies Inc. (HTI), an industrial equipment company focused on acoustically assisted heat and mass transfer (e.g. drying), where he was responsible for the expansion of market applications from printing to drying certain foods, and textiles in North America, Europe, and Asia. He was also responsible for overseeing the installation and startup of equipment in the US and Asia. In addition, he expanded HTI's patent coverage, as well as managed litigation in the US and Europe. Previously, Jason served as Director of External Business Development - Technology Assets at Newell Brands (formally Newell Rubbermaid Inc.), where he was accountable for accelerating consumer-driven innovation by leading business unit teams through: linking consumer insights to technology, due diligence, initial discussions, acquisition and implementation. Jason lead multi-hundred million dollar new product innovation projects, supporting all Newell's businesses globally, with performance objectives aligned to VPs of R&D. At Kimberly-Clark, Jason was Senior Licensing Manager, buying and selling patented technologies for the enterprise. He lead multiple deal teams through marketing, engagement, negotiations, deal closure, and post agreement compliance. Deals include competitive licensing, live patent auction, equity transfer as license compensation, IP donation, and stick licensing. Prior to working in the licensing group, Dr Lye lead a team of researchers, formulating and commercializing pigmented and dye based ink jet inks in California and Mexico.
