Profile Summary

I am a cancer immunologist with strong expertise in microbiota studies. I completed my PhD in Health Sciences in the laboratory of Prof. Philippe Sansonetti, where I studied the mechanisms by which bacteria interact and subvert the immune system in chronic disease. In 2013, I joined Dr Egeblad’s laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where I focused on the interaction between macrophages and cytotoxic T cells in tumours and how this interaction can be modulated to achieve tumour rejection. In 2017, I was awarded a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship to lead a project at the APC Microbiome Ireland, on the mechanisms by which tumour-associated microbiota may alter immune function and influence clinical outcome in colorectal cancer. My work to date has generated significant fundamental insights into how the human gut microbiota can contribute to tumour development by modulation of the immune response. Throughout my career, I have contributed to 12 original articles, resulting in >1,230 citations (Google Scholar), with 3 papers in the Top 5% of all research outputs (Altmetric).
