Language Data Analyst & Engineer | Low-Resource NLP, Corpus Linguistics & Python

Profile Summary

I am a language data analyst and engineer specializing in low-resource and under-resourced language data, with a particular focus on Cantonese and other Sinitic varieties. I am currently pursuing an MA by Research in Linguistics at the National University of Singapore, following a Bachelor of Engineering in Network Engineering. My work combines linguistic research with practical data engineering and computational methods.

I have hands-on experience in corpus construction, web data collection, text cleaning and normalization, lexical-resource development, metadata organization, and Python-based data processing. Through the Cantonese Computational Linguistics Infrastructure Development Workgroup (CanCLID), I have worked on collecting and curating Guangzhou Cantonese corpora, language-model-based Cantonese/Mandarin classification, and the localization and data curation of Mozilla Common Voice for Cantonese.

I have also developed and maintained language-technology resources including the Pan-Cantonese Dictionary and Jyutping++ tooling, using Python to parse and filter Cantonese transcripts and lexical data. My previous research and development work includes building a Chinese newspaper corpus collection and extraction system, as well as developing and deploying components for a Cantonese input method and multilingual dictionary project.

I can support research projects involving corpus creation and cleaning, linguistic data preprocessing, web scraping, lexical and dictionary data, annotation and metadata workflows, exploratory analysis, and reproducible Python-based data pipelines. My technical toolkit includes Python, pandas, regular expressions, PHP/MySQL, Git/GitHub, and corpus-oriented data workflows.

I am particularly interested in helping researchers working with messy, sparse, heterogeneous, or under-resourced language data turn raw materials into structured, reusable, and research-ready datasets.
