Profile Summary

I’m a PhD-trained Cancer Systems Biologist and postdoctoral researcher in the Hanna Volatile Biomarker Group at Imperial College London, with a focus on VOC-based breath diagnostics, the tumour microenvironment, and cancer evolution in gastrointestinal cancers. My research investigates how volatile organic compounds (VOCs) reflect metabolic reprogramming in cancer, with the goal of developing non-invasive breath tests for early detection and treatment stratification. During my PhD, I developed an automated liquid VOC extraction method requiring minimal sample preparation, which offers broad applicability across medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, industrial settings, and food safety. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), I’m passionate about education and mentorship. My contributions to teaching and student support have been recognised through multiple awards, including the Departmental Staff Award for Education (2022), the College Union Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant (2023), and the Departmental Award for Culture & Engagement (2023). Beyond the lab, I lead STEM outreach and EDI initiatives, with a strong focus on engaging underserved communities and promoting inclusivity in science. This work was recognised with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Widening Participation (2024). In my role, I provide strategic oversight of procurement and laboratory management for a large translational research group, including a £3M+ equipment portfolio and over £500K in annual consumables, supporting five multi-centre clinical trials.
