Profile Summary

I am Dr. Nishat Zafar, a dedicated microbiologist with a passion for understanding microbial behavior and developing solutions to combat antimicrobial resistance. I completed my PhD in Microbiology from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in collaboration with the University of California, Irvine. My PhD research focused on isolating and characterizing bacteriophages against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from burn patients, an area that holds great potential for addressing the growing threat of drug-resistant infections. My academic journey began with a BS and MPhil in Microbiology from Government College University, Faisalabad, where I honed my skills in microbial research. My MPhil thesis explored the frequency and antimicrobial susceptibility of Listeria monocytogenes isolated from fresh and frozen meat samples in Faisalabad. These formative experiences ignited my passion for research and paved the way for my advanced studies in bacteriophages and microbial resistance. In addition to my research, I have been actively involved in teaching and mentoring students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have worked as a lecturer and teaching assistant at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, where I delivered lectures, conducted practical demonstrations, and guided students through their academic and research journeys. I believe that education is a powerful tool, and I strive to inspire the next generation of scientists. My work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and I have participated in several collaborative research projects, ranging from the therapeutic effects of Aloe vera on colibacillosis in chickens to the development of antimicrobial peptides. I have also been fortunate to present my research at international conferences and workshops, where I had the opportunity to connect with other scientists and expand my knowledge in the field. Looking ahead, I am eager to continue my research and contribute to scientific advancements that can address critical global health challenges. My goal is to combine my expertise in microbiology with innovative approaches to help combat infectious diseases and improve public health outcomes worldwide.
