I am a PhD candidate in microbiology who has worked in molecular virology, food microgiology, microbial genetics, and environmental microbiology. I am exceptionally experienced in analytical chemistry, having developed GC/MS and HPLC methods for flavor profile analysis, characterization of toxic volatiles, lipidomics and metabolomics. I am also skilled in molecular techniques, having devised molecular protocols to genetically engineer industrial yeast for biofuel production, quantify reptilian fungal loads, conduct bacterial pathogenesis studies, and isolate and identify bacteria for use in sour beer fermentation. My current research centers on optimizing a process that uses yeast to digest and convert plastic waste to value added chemicals. This requires me to create and refine thermochemical techniques and fermentation methods, use genetic engineering and analytical chemistry, and employ process development principles to scale up the process with maximum efficiency.
