Profile Summary

I am a freelance medical and science writer with over 10 years of biomedical research and medical writing experience in oncology, immunology, and other medical topics. I obtained a MSc in pathobiology and toxicology from the University of Nijmegen and a PhD in Tumor Immunology from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. I obtained additional preclinical research experience as a postdoctoral fellow at BC Cancer studying cancer immunotherapy. I am highly skilled in writing grant applications, scientific manuscripts, protocols, literature reviews, expert consensus reports, ad boards, educational material, blog posts, and white papers. I am passionate about science communication and have enjoyed presenting my data at multiple national and international conferences and meetings, communicating science with young students during volunteering activities, and writing for various publications. I am a content writer for ACIR.org providing updates to researchers about the latest developments in the field, I co-run a blog for young women in STEM education and careers (thebiogirls.com), and work on various writing projects for different audiences. During my research career, I have managed national and international projects. Outstanding communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability to changing situations were essential for these projects to succeed. I have obtained leadership skills by mentoring and supervising undergrad and grad students, I planned and organized trainee career days for cancer immunotherapy conferences, and I advocated for the rights of postdocs when I was a vice-chair on the executive board of the Canadian Association for Postdoctoral Scholars.
