Profile Summary

I am a neuroscientist and biotech IP consultant with a PhD in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a background in molecular biology. My academic research has focused primarily on how light and circadian signals influence mood and prefrontal cortex function. During my PhD at Johns Hopkins, I characterized the neural pathways by which light exerts direct effects on mood. As a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins, I extended this work to study non-canonical light transduction pathways and their impact on prefrontal cortex circuitry. At the National Institutes of Health, I continued this line of research while revising and finalizing manuscripts on the effects of light on prefrontal cortex function, and more recently worked on developing a universal CRISPR “switch-off” system for gene constructs delivered in vivo or in vitro via AAV. Technically, I have hands-on expertise in in-vivo calcium imaging and fiber photometry, neural pathway tracing, rodent behavioral training and testing, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, and the design of gene therapy constructs using viral and nanoparticle vectors. I have co-authored peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals (including Cell and Science Advances), as well as a book chapter on stochastic simulations in synthetic biology.
