Profile Summary

I am an experienced academician and researcher with over three decades of expertise spanning teaching, molecular biology, plant sciences, microbial biotechnology, and translational biomedical research. I served as Assistant Professor and former Head of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics at Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research. I hold a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Sri Venkateswara University and has completed prestigious postdoctoral training at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, as well as at the University of Valencia, Spain. My early research focused on plant stress physiology and herbicide interactions using radiolabelled techniques. I subsequently advanced into molecular biology, working on cloning, protein expression, and functional characterization of viral proteins such as Rotavirus NSP4. My industry experience as a Research Scientist at Mahyco Seeds Pvt. Ltd. strengthened my expertise in abiotic and biotic stress gene discovery, transgenic plant development, and protein expression systems. Over the past decade, my research has evolved toward endophytic microbiota, phytochemistry, and nanobiotechnology, with a strong focus on identifying bioactive compounds with antimicrobial, antibiofilm, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. I have led and contributed to multiple funded and institutional research projects, including work on endophytic bacteria and fungi, green nanoparticle synthesis, quercetin-based therapeutics, radiation-induced gut microbiota, and genetic disorders linked to hemoglobinopathies. My ongoing research includes ferroptosis in oral cancer, bioactive metabolites from endophytes, and translational studies using cancer cell lines. I have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals indexed in SCOPUS and PubMed and holds patents on fibrinolytic enzymes and antibiotic agents derived from endophytes. I have successfully supervised Ph.D. and postgraduate students and is actively involved in mentoring, curriculum development, and research coordination.
