Profile Summary

I offer over 10 years of experience in quantitative research, where I collected, mined, prepared, and statistically analyzed data to solve complex, ambiguously defined problems. During my time at the Public Library of Science (PLOS) I have used these skills to translate business questions into data strategies and analyses and back into compelling business answers. I offer a diverse skill set, including: • Conceptualizing, preparing, and conducting detailed research designs. • Finding, connecting, managing, and manipulating (often messy) data from multiple sources. • Conducting, publishing, and presenting advanced statistical analyses. • Mining text data with NLP techniques such as bi-gram frequencies, TF-IDF, and sentiment analysis. • A constant desire to learn new software and packages along with a strong existing skillset in Python, SQL, Excel, and R. During my time at PLOS I have worked with a variety of teams including the Marketing, Engineering, Research, Publishing Operations, and Executive teams. During my academic career (2015 Ph.D in Sociology, Vanderbilt University) I worked both autonomously and collaborated with teams on behavioral, spatial, and economic projects. These academic projects led to reports, conference presentations, and (eight) peer-reviewed academic articles, six of which were sole authored. The plurality of these publications explored factors contributing to the lack of businesses in low income areas (especially supermarkets) using advanced statistics. Other topics included criminology, environment & health, and issue salience. I also have experience communicating complex analyses to non-academic audiences, both at PLOS and in developing content for and teaching eight undergraduate courses over the course of my career.
