Profile Summary

I manage a team of researchers with a focus on evaluating and optimizing strategies for the conversion (valorization) of biomass and waste residues into valuable products. A key strength of the team rests with its expertise in analytical chemistry, pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, and fermentation. Other research interests relate to applied environmental microbiology. The group is equipped with and/or able to access tools for conducting organism-based, community, and process-level studies using both traditional and molecular microbiological approaches. Past/present research areas include microbial community diversity and functionality, cycling of nutrients in managed and natural ecosystems, bioremediation and rhizobium (commercial service to industry and reachers).
