Profile Summary

I am very passionate about researching ways to improve sensory and motor function for people with chronic spinal cord injury. From 2011 - 2015, I worked as an exercise trainer in a gym that provides activity-based training to people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders which result in paralysis. Following that, I persued a PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Florida, which I completed in 2020. My focus was mainly on how spinal cord injury affects breathing function, and explored how acute intermittent hypoxia, a novel neuromodulatory therapy, could be used to enhance breathing and other motor functions in persons with spinal cord injury. I completed a short postdoctoral position at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida, before moving to work at the VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. I'm currently studying how epidural stimulation and non-invasive transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation can be used to enhance rehabilitation of sensory and motor function for people with spinal cord injuries. .
