Profile Summary

I am Dr. Sunil Kumar Dhatwalia, a PhD in Medical Microbiology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, with over nine years of experience in research, diagnostics, and teaching in the field of infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis (TB). My professional journey integrates expertise in molecular diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, and evidence-based medicine, with a strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals. Currently, I serve as a Consultant Microbiologist at the State Reference Laboratory for Tuberculosis, PGIMER Chandigarh, a BSL-3 facility. My work involves advanced diagnostic methods such as GenXpert (real-time PCR), Line Probe Assays, and culture-based drug susceptibility testing, along with EQA implementation, quality assurance, training, and research coordination. Previously, I worked as a Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellow at Panjab University, Chandigarh, where I explored chemopreventive effects of natural compounds like white tea and boswellic acids against environmental carcinogens. I have also contributed to WHO-funded projects on childhood tuberculosis and obesity under the ICMR Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, generating systematic reviews and policy-relevant reports.
