Profile Summary

I am a Molecular Biology graduate from the University of Cape Town with a Biotechnology Honours degree from the University of the Western Cape. My academic training focuses on genetics, biochemistry and biotechnology, with experience in both laboratory and computational biology. My Honours research project, titled “Characterizing Maternal Lineage Diversity in Hunter-Gatherer Communities in Kenya,” investigated mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diversity in the Okiek population and compared it with surrounding ethnic groups. This work applied forensic genetics techniques and population genetics analyses to understand maternal lineage diversity and phylogenetic relationships. Through my studies and research, I have gained experience in molecular biology techniques, next-generation sequencing (NGS), genomics, and proteomics. I have also worked with bioinformatics tools and programming environments including R, Python, and Linux for analyzing biological datasets such as RNA-seq and genomic data. My coursework included specialized modules in Proteomics, Genomics, Plant Biotechnology, Forensic Science, and Next-Generation Sequencing. I also have experience with gene expression analysis, molecular data interpretation, and scientific data presentation.
