Profile Summary

For almost two decades, I have worked with children with disabilities and their families from birth through high school. I am passionate about supporting equitable and inclusive environments within home, school and communities that facilitate high quality educational experiences, development and learning for all children. My work in education is informed by Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) ecological systems theory, Vygotsky’s (1978) sociocultural learning theory, and both behavioral and developmental sciences. My key values are equity centered to ensure that all students, families, and staff I partner with feel safe, welcome, valued, and that they are a meaningful part of their education community. My values can be summarized by three affirmations from the Lane ESD Equity Lens and include: 1) Relationships are powerful and can lead to better student outcomes. 2) Diversity makes us stronger, and I will seek to understand and honor the differences between myself and the students, families, and staff I work with. 3) Educational leadership and education work in general is about ALL students. Every student matters, and it is our responsibility to understand the opportunity gaps and barriers that students and families face, and actively work to dismantle those systems that prioritize the well-being and access of one group of students over another. These core values influence my decision-making processes and communication style regularly. When making decisions or interacting with teams, whether it be about personnel, curriculum, policy etc. I consider questions that center equity such as, “How does this decision change inherently bias systems?”, “Who benefits from this solution and who is hindered by this solution?”, “Who’s voice has been included and who’s voice hasn’t? Why?”, “In what ways am I creating a sense of belonging and community?”, and “How does my own lived experience influence this decision and how does that change the outcomes or impact for diverse groups of stakeholders?”
