Profile Summary

Dr. Ross King obtained a First Class Honours in Pharmacology from The University of Glasgow in 2010, where he also received the J.J. Lewis Memorial Prize for Distinction in Pharmacology. He then undertook his MRes in Cardiovascular Science within the King's College London British Heart Foundation Centre for Cardiovascular Research Excellence, achieving a Pass with Distinction. He remained at KCL for his doctoral studies, investigating the role of sensory nerve-derived peptides in mouse models of cardiovascular disease, such as hypertension and ageing.

Following completion of his PhD, he moved to The Centre for Microvascular Research at The William Harvey Research Institute, where he further developed his interest in leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions. Here, he used complex in vivo models of inflammation and injury to evaluate the role of neutrophils in driving pathological tissue swelling. He is an expert in in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro imaging of immune and vascular cells and the development and characterisation of in vivo models of cardiovascular and inflammatory disease.

In 2018, Ross transitioned into a role within the biomedical research charity sector, where he acts as a scientific advisor. In 2020, he took up a similar position working for the UK's largest funder of medical research. He has a strong track record of writing and editing 'lay-friendly' scientific articles through his main line of work and in collaboration with medical research charities and start-ups, as part of his portfolio of freelance work. Ross has a broad range of subject expertise within biomedical research, ranging from preclinical discovery science through to epidemiological studies and public health.
