I am a bioinformatician passionate about this discipline, in fact I am the main author of the bioinformatics blog called "Bioinformaticamente". I like to study and increase my knowledge in the bioinformatics sector and to test myself in increasingly engaging projects that is why I decided to work as a freelancer in order to gain more and more experience in this sector and increase my skills. Regarding my training in the bioinformatics sector, I attended a bioinformatics and statistics course at University of Turin (Italy) and an in-depth course on GWAS at the Physalia Courses portal. Furthermore, for a year now I have been occupying part of my days in personal study through books and online courses (on platforms such as Coursera) in order to increase my knowledge and skills in the field of bioinformatics and data science in general. At the moment I gained experience mainly using programming language R and Bash. I also used and studied various bioinformatics tools aimed mainly at: - alignment of sequences using mainly local heuristic algorithms such as BLAST (remotely and locally); - de novo assembly of genome and transcriptome using tools such as Velvet, Megahit and Trinity; - evaluation of assembly quality metrics; - alignment of genomic and transcriptomic reads to a reference using BWAmem (genome) and Bowtie2 (transcriptome); - variant calling (SNPs, Indel, CNVs, ...) at the genomic level with tools such as VCF-tools, GATK, Freebayes, Pindel, Delly; - genome-wide association study (GWAS) using GAPIT or PLINK; - differential expression analysis using tools such as DESeq2; - construction of phylogenetic trees using Clustal X; - dating of transposable elements such as EDTA.pl and LTRpred.
