Profile Summary

I am a global scholar with an MBA, a PhD in International Development, and 25+ years of research, writing and consulting experience in education and sustainable development. Bilingual in English and Spanish, I have developed strategies, programs, policies, reports, and communications for the United Nations and governments, organizations, and universities around the world. I co-founded the Centro de Investigación Educativa (CIEDU), Panama’s first public-private education research think tank, and headed a globally recognized mobile literacy project during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, I taught for Tulane University and developed and directed their Global Development Master’s Panama program. I also worked on the establishment of the United Nations Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean and led its research and knowledge management efforts for four years. Recent projects include production of the screenplay for the award-winning documentary Higher Grounds (2020); the books North-South University Research Partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean (2018) and The United Nations as a Knowledge System (2015); the UNDP Caribbean Human Development Report (2012); and chapters and articles on Refugee education: Conceptualizing inclusion amid conflict and crisis (2018), Rethinking higher education investment in developing countries (2017), The role of higher education in equitable human development (2016), WhatsApp Remote Reading Recovery: Using mobile technology to promote literacy during COVID-19 in the Republic of Panama (forthcoming), and Ed-tech and equity in Panama: Mobile technology for leveling the learning field (forthcoming), among others. I have extensive experience serving on non-profit boards and committees, among them the International Studies Association, Academic Council on the United Nations System, Stanford University Outreach Volunteer Alumni Link, and Panama’s BioMuseo. I am now in the process of co-founding D&G Productions, a company dedicated to research-based documentary storytelling.
