Profile Summary

I have extensive experience developing protein production strategies for diverse protein families and new research targets, from construct design and high-throughput expression screening through to scale-up, purification and biophysical characterisation. I developed and implemented high-throughput workflows, including 5 mL expression screening approaches, and supported the transfer of successful methods into reproducible workflows used by wider research teams. My expertise includes recombinant protein expression, particularly in E. coli, and purification using Cytiva ÄKTA chromatography systems, including affinity, ion exchange, mixed-mode and size exclusion chromatography. I have experience optimising approaches for technically challenging proteins, including large, multimeric, cysteine-rich, metal-binding and aggregation-prone targets, using structured troubleshooting approaches to improve yield, quality and reproducibility. Alongside hands-on laboratory expertise, I have supported research teams by advising on expression strategies, purification approaches, experimental design and workflow improvements. I have developed biochemical and biophysical characterisation workflows, including high-throughput differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF) and nuclease detection assays, and have experience with enzyme assays, fluorescence-based assays and analytical size exclusion chromatography. I also have experience supporting laboratory operations, including CL2 laboratory management, equipment selection, procurement, SOP development, risk assessments and mentoring junior scientists.
