Over the last eight years my research interests have ranged from adolescent learning and development in afterschool programs, to issues of cultural identity, cultural globalization and culturally-relevant pedagogy, to civic and social responsibility in higher education contexts, to adultism in education. Most recently, I have worked on projects related to teacher interventions to create culturally inclusive classrooms, educational sport interventions for children around the world, and youth violence prevention in urban communities using participatory action research and behavior change principles. Unifying these diverse research interests is the overarching theory of positive youth development and a focus on emphasizing the strengths and competencies of adolescents and young adults.
