Profile Summary

I am currently a PhD student studying antimicrobial resistance. Specifically, my ongoing research projects are related to developing novel detection assays for antibiotic resistant pathogens and the development of peptide-based bacterial enzyme (beta-lactamase) inhibitors to combat antibiotic resistance. Since I started in a brand new lab and was the first graduate student, I have gained the opportunities to develop projects from the ground up (both conceptually and experimentally). During my graduate studies I have gained experience in manuscript preparation and editing, as well as development of abstracts and posters for the presentation of my research at national conferences (Canadian Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Annual Conference, Canadian Society of Microbiology Annual Conference). I have specific expertise in the following lab techniques: Molecular cloning (DNA purification, restriction digests, gibson assembly, lambda red recombineering), polymerase chain reaction / primer design, site-directed mutagenesis, protein purification and quantification, development of high-throughput microplate-based drug screens, bacterial cell culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing
