Profile Summary

My research centers on the application of solar energy for wastewater treatment to energy production. The major focus of my research is to develop photocatalysis (homogeneous & heterogeneous) for energy conversion systems (water splitting reaction, HER & OER). Wastewater Treatment: I pursued my doctoral research with the theme of developing understanding of the energy transfer processes in photoreaction. I discovered the mechanistic and kinetic study of photosensitized reactions. I used photosensitizers to degrade the heterocyclic organic pollutant using visible light irradiation in aqueous medium for waste water treatment. Major objective of the research was to discover the mode of energy transfer process, excited state determination, mode of decomposition of excited state and to determine the quantum efficiency of the photoreaction. I published five research articles in peer reviewed journals based on my doctoral research. Isotopically Characterizing the Water Sources of India: After earning my PhD, I diversified my research by taking up the challenging assignment of isotopically characterizing the water sources of India as a part of the National Programme on Isotope Fingerprinting of Waters of India while working at Physical Research Laboratory, Dept of Space, Govt of India. Here I explored the potentials of stable isotope tracer technique for hydrological applications and the important hydrological research issues confronting the nation. I was operating and managing the IWIN IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer) laboratory. I compiled and interpreted the huge data sets of isotopic parameters to reveal the spatial and temporal variation of the same over Indian subcontinent and published three research articles in relatively newer and comparatively diverse research areas. Solar energy Conversion System: At Ulm University, Germany I worked on all the aspects of molecular material for sunlight conversion systems and photocatalysis. Also synthesized and studied photocatalytic activity of molecular metal oxide clusters for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction and investigated its reaction mechanism. During my Postdoctoral research at California State University, Long Beach, California I Worked on solid state synthesis, crystal structure determination and physical properties of Perovskite oxides & Pyrochlore systems. I developed energy related functional materials for Hydrogen production and Oxygen evolution photocatalysis and Photo-electro catalysis.
