Profile Summary

I am currently working as a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, where I have been teaching since 2002. Before joining this department, I worked as an Assistant Director of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, for more than two years. Additionally, I was employed (on deputation) as a research economist in Central Bank Strengthening Project, a World Bank-sponsored project, for around two years (2005-2007). So far I taught many courses, including Mathematical Economics, Principles of Economics, and International Trade. Besides teaching in Chittagong University, I was involved in teaching at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) and International Islamic University Chittagong. I received my Ph.D. degree in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University, USA in 2014. Before that I received an M.A. in Economics degree from the same university in 2011. Besides, I obtained a Master’s and an Honours degrees in Economics from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. In my academic life, I was awarded many grants and scholarships including the UGC scholarship by Bangladesh University Grant Commission and teaching assistantship by Middle Tennessee State University. My current research focuses on examining the determinants of labor market outcomes and educational success. As a research economist in Central Bank Strengthening Project, however, I used to research on monetary and fiscal policies in the context of Bangladesh. I have so far authored a good number of articles published in different internationally reputed journals including the Journal of Family and Economic Issues (USA), Academy of Economics and Finance Journal (USA), and Economic Papers (Australia). In my future research, I would like to make a synthesis of environmental aspects and labor related issues. Since it appears and can be argued that environment and labor are very closely related in numerous ways, such synthesis will be of much interest. Additionally, I have extensive expertise in data analysis, specially using Stata and Excel.
