Profile Summary

I recently graduated with a PhD in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley, where I studied hosts and their associated microbial communities. I have experience in NGS technology, biostatistics, data manipulation, and data visualization to explore the composition of microbial communities, as well as the gene expression profiles of their hosts. In addition to my experimental and computational skills, my experience with communicating science both orally and in the written form lend to my ability to research and write content for diverse audiences. Further, I am skilled at managing multiple projects and multiple people to effectively meet deadlines, as I was able to complete my degree within five years with multiple projects completed and multiple papers published within that time frame. I am also excellent with experimental design. I have 5+ years of research experience examining hosts and their associated microbial communities using genomics-based applications, resulting in 6 peer-reviewed publications, 10 conference presentations, and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I am an analytical and creative thinker who developed methods to generate one of the first characterizations of the C. elegans gut microbiota. I am also excellent at troubleshooting complex problems, and I am an effective leader and communicator with experience serving as a primary mentor to 12 student researchers and as a classroom teacher to 200+ students.
