Profile Summary

I am a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and I have dedicated my career to the biomedical field of reproductive sciences, both at the clinical care and scientific research levels. In my appointments, I have been responsible for overseeing quality control/quality assurance and for implementing standing operating procedures (SOPs) concerning regulatory guidelines and ISO accreditation. I am certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director, recognized by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and versed in all aspects of clinical embryology, from gamete/embryo handling to pre-implantation genetic screening an diagnosis, with more than 15 years of experience. As a clinical researcher, I have overseen and coordinated research development and performance in different international settings.

Currently working as a senior medical writer in the fertility area, I am responsible for providing strategic input and quality, editorial reviewing support to accelerate manuscript development, publication planning and execution, as well as for developing the content and scope for publication concepts to accelerate parallel publications projects from conception to submission and to supports franchise related strategic activities such as strategic publication planning.

I have devoted large part of my career to scientific writing and scientific communication, working for more than 14 years in science communications as the Managing Editor of a scientific journal, Reproductive Sciences. As part of my role responsibilities, I oversaw journal content and served as the bridge between Authors, a large body of Associate Editors, Reviewers and Editors-in-Chief. I was responsible for ensuring high scientific standards, efficient administration of publications, assigning reviewers and making decisions on publications, commissioning and delivering perspectives, history articles and review articles for the journal. In addition, I was the author of a science news section and have published more than 125 articles raising awareness to new developments in the different fields of reproductive sciences. With this writing experience, I have learnt to engage not only the scientific community, but also the lay population, by communicating the science and fostering the interest on the topic in a way that could be further pursued at each individual's expertise level.
 
Additionally, as part of my academic training and working experience in the clinical embryology field, I have been the author of multiple scientific articles and I am deeply familiar with analyzing and evaluating primary and translational research literature. 
 
I have also been involved in the teaching of graduate/medical students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as a mentor for high school students interested in Science. Through my scientific career I have been a presenter at press release conferences for the media and I have been invited to present the relevance of the work to members of the pharmaceutical world.  
 
 I am proficient in English and Portuguese, with very good spoken and written knowledge of Spanish, as well as some knowledge of German and French.

Passionate about science (particularly in the reproductive medicine field) and science communications, I am a true believer that the latter plays a major role in empowering the development and implementation of the former. Science communication and consulting are key to promote science development to a level that can improve lives – without them, even the greatest findings would not make it from the benchtop to the bedside! Proper science dissemination is a topic that speaks very close to my heart and that I find most compelling.
