Profile Summary

My postgraduate (PhD in Neuroscience) and professional (Senior Research Fellow) expertise in Neurodegeneration Research involved the novel use of human brain tissue (including post-mortem donor tissue, live tissue resected during neurosurgery and induced pluripotent stem cells) for identifying early therapeutic targets (related to aberrant calcium homeostasis) in prodromal stages of Alzheimer's disease. I also hold a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology, through which I gained a comprehensive understanding of how drugs impact the entire range of human organ systems - on the anatomical, physiological and molecular scales. Throughout my ten years of scientific training and work, I have co-authored numerous high-impact journal publications (two as first author), successfully obtained project grants (Alzheimer's Research UK and Rosetrees Trust) and a fellowship (Alzheimer's Society), supervised two post-graduate students (MSc Neuroscience) and have provided peer review of undergraduate and PhD grants for Alzheimer's Society. I currently work as a Research Fellow for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) in the UK, helping improve the quality of clinical research funding methodology. My passion for scientific editing, writing and consulting has led me to pursue a freelance career as a Scientific Editor, in order to help others communicate exciting scientific research through publications, academic theses and articles.
