I have an interest in several biological/medical science research topics; primarily, molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, genomics and proteomics. I have a unique array of research experiences. These experiences include: (1) investigation of prophylactic treatments (using a novel compound) on catfish microbial diseases,(2) investigation of the presence of a cold shock protein in Vibrio vulnificus isolated from oysters, (3) real-time diagnostic tool development for the detection of Vibrio spp. in oysters, (4) developing standard operating procedures for detection of fish pathogens, (5) EcoGene.org (NCBI entries are currently retrieved from this site) database curation, microarray data extrapolation working with a team to create a comprehensive database of gene expression changes due to various treatments in E. coli, identification of 5' UTR sites and sRNA bioinformatic and lab work, (6) role of chromatin in nucleotide excision repair, specifically what role ubiquitination plays on DDB2 using yeast as a model system, (7) Drosophilia genomics integration into undergraduate classrooms, primarily gene annotation as part of the GEP. Five of the seven topics listed have resulted in one or more publications and/or presentations.
