Profile Summary

My primary interests are based around immune cell biology, particularly how immune cells are capable of performing wide ranging functions and how they adapt to different environmental cues. I am an active researcher in fields including glycosylation, meta-research and open-access. My research has crossed species, including fruit flies, mice and humans. Furthermore, I hold interests in science communication, open access and career development for academics. I write highlights of research articles on preLights (https://prelights.biologists.com/profiles/coatesj/) and have recently begun to write on Medium (https://medium.com/@jonathon.a.coates). My previous research focussed on fibrosis biology and I have experience with healthcare related innovations (consultancy). I also host, produce and write a science podcast (Preprints in Motion) and will be executive producing a new podcast.
