Profile Summary

Since beginning my studies in Molecular Biology at the University of Oviedo (2002–2006), I have engaged in research from an early stage. In the final year of my degree, I was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education to investigate DNA repair mechanisms. As a predoctoral researcher (ISCIII) at the Central University Hospital of Asturias, my doctoral thesis on centromeric breakage and recombination resulted in three first-author publications. A subsequent research stay in Angelika Amon’s laboratory at MIT led to a high-impact publication on targeted therapies for aneuploid cells.

After completing my PhD, I broadened my expertise in cancer stromal biomarkers—specifically collagen 11A1—in Luis Barneo’s group in Oviedo, producing two further articles. At ERIBA in Groningen (2014–2015), I worked with conditional murine models and single-cell sequencing, culminating in a study on stem-cell aneuploidy.

In 2016, I chose to challenge myself by enrolling in the Master’s program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (ISCIII). Concurrently, I joined the biotechnology company Life Length (2016–2019), where I contributed to a patent for a high-throughput telomere-measurement method and applied machine-learning techniques to the European projects Frailomics and OncoCheck.

Since 2020, I have been with the Research Foundation of Hospital La Princesa, where I design RNA-seq, miRNA, and methylation pipelines, develop predictive models for COVID-19, and created a genotyping system currently under patent review.

At present, I lead the Bioinformatics Unit for pediatric leukemia at Hospital Niño Jesús (Madrid), supervising two doctoral candidates and one master’s thesis, and collaborating with national and international research groups. I also teach applied statistics and transcriptomics in the Master’s programs at UAM and UFV.

With 34 articles, more than 500 citations, and an h-index of 10, I bring a track record that combines scientific rigor, independent leadership, and a strong translational vision.
