Profile Summary

I´m a Senior Scientist with a strong background in Translational Immunology. My main interest is the research and development of new strategies in Immunotherapy. My research career started with my PhD project in the field of Cellular and Molecular Immunology, which shaped my personal interest in antibody drug development. The main aim of the project, entitled “Production of human monoclonal antibodies against human B lymphocytes”, was to obtain and characterize human monoclonal antibodies from transgenic mice carrying human immunoglobulin genes. During my post-doctoral position at University College London, I worked in the field of Cellular Immunotherapy, in particular I was involved in an Immunotherapy program in Multiple Myeloma. This project complemented my previous experience in humoral immunotherapy and broadened my knowledge in the current tendencies in Cancer Immunotherapy. Industry experience working for UCB Pharma Ltd. gave me the opportunity to apply my previous academic experience in a very innovative project to discover new cancer antigens harnessing the natural immune response against tumours. Returning to academia (Imperial College London) I gained experience in the field of recombinant antibodies, which complemented my knowledge of monoclonal antibodies. My work was focused on expression and purification of antibody fragments (scFv) and conjugations to photo-sensitizers to improve the specificity of photodynamic therapy (PDT). I was appointed at CRUK to apply my expertise in antibody development into a new platform to obtain human monoclonal antibodies from human B cells stimulated in vitro. The success of this unique platform has led to the establishment of a the spin-off company: Blink Therapeutics I´m currently investigating the application of this strategy in vaccine development
