Profile Summary

I am a highly adaptive professional that thrives at the intersection of marine sciences, law, and policy design. I combine a strong scientific background with insight on legal frameworks and governance structures, regulatory design capabilities, and field experience working with authorities and multi-stakeholder platforms. Awarded the Latin American Fisheries Fellowship in 2016, I obtained my master's degree in environmental science and management from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2018. I was awarded the National Environmental Award in 2014 for co-developing Peru's first guide on responsible seafood consumption. I then updated this tool in 2024, incorporating a semi-qualitative assessment methodology. In 2023, I received the National Environmental Award again for my work with the Responsible Fishing Association, providing technical-legal advice and implementing years of action to reduce illegal fishing practices along the coast. As a Fishery Advisor at the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law, I played a key role in designing and approving significant regulatory changes, including the Regulation of Benthic Resource Fisheries, the General Fisheries Law, the banning of high-impact fishing gears, and the improvement of legal tools for enforcement and prosecution. I also led studies on data-poor fisheries, using alternative methods like local ecological knowledge and productivity susceptibility analysis to assess stocks and inform management of understudied coastal groundfish.
