Profile Summary

My background is in the structural biology of membrane proteins, specifically G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). During my DPhil (PhD), I solved the first structure of a GPCR with a large, functional extracellular domain using X-ray crystallography. This protein is called "Smoothened" and it is a drug target relevant to various types of cancer. Smoothened is a part of the Hedgehog signalling pathway, which is essential for proper embryonic development in all animals. I have substantial experience in protein production, purification, biophysical characterisation and crystallisation, with a particular focus on difficult membrane-bound targets and drugs that they interact with. I also have experience in methods development and assay development using purified protein components. My writing and editing skills are excellent. I have experience writing and editing scientific manuscripts for publication in top scientific journals, including Nature and eLife.
