Profile Summary

My interests lie in neurodegenerative disorders, with emphasis on the study of molecular mechanism(s) underlying impaired synaptic function. I am currently studying signaling mechanisms involved in the onset of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). I have reported impaired activity-dependent translation in a mouse model of AD, the mechanism involved and its subsequent rescue (published). My current projects include unraveling the mechanistic aspect of synaptic dysfunction in AD, aided by relevant behavioural paradigms in mice. The work, in its current form, has already been presented as separate posters at the 46th annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience and 16th annual meeting of the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine. I enjoy designing experiments to establish the causative role of mechanisms that are otherwise only hypothesized to be involved, or show merely a correlation with the observed phenomenon. My technical expertise involves culturing primary cortical and hippocampal neurons from newborn mice, immunocytochemistry and confocal as well as super-resolution microscopy.
