Profile Summary

Dr. Subramanian received his BEng (Honors) degree in metallurgical engineering from PSG College of Technology (Madras University), followed by a Masters degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He went to the University of Melbourne (Australia) on a Gilbert-Rigg Scholarship where he earned his PhD for his work on wear mechanisms. He has also received an Executive MBA degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, Canada. He worked in three universities in Australia (Wollongong, South Australia and James Cook) doing teaching, research and industrial consulting. In 1999 Westaim Corporation hired him to lead a research team at their Surface Engineered Products division. He then held the position of R&D Director at Black Cat Blades Ltd, a leading manufacturer of ground engaging tools. He also worked for InnoTech Alberta (formerly Alberta Research Council) as Portfolio Manager of Advanced Materials Business Unit. He has also worked for Volant Oil Tools/Noetic Engineering as Materials Engineering Manager. He has authored over 100 papers, 3 books, 4 patents and numerous reports in the area of materials, wear and surface engineering. As a member of ASM International, he volunteered for the Edmonton Chapter for many years including the role of the Chapter Chair. He was awarded ASM-IIM Visiting fellowship twice. He is a recognized manuscript reviewer for the international journals such as WEAR, COMPOSITE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY and METALLURGICAL TRANSACTIONS.
