Profile Summary

I am a chemist with a PhD in Organic and Physical Chemistry and over fifteen years of international experience across academia and industry. My career spans Spain, Portugal, Canada, and the UK, with a consistent focus on spectroscopy, nanomaterials, photochemistry, and surface science applied to catalysis, biomedicine, and environmental technologies. After graduating in Chemistry from the University of Cádiz (2003), I began my research career studying spectroscopic characterization of pigments in food adulteration. I then joined Yale University as an exchange researcher, contributing to a NASA/Air Force collaboration on the development of ionic liquids for satellite propulsion. I obtained my PhD at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (2009), where I investigated drug–protein interactions using laser flash photolysis and advanced photophysical techniques, publishing several papers in leading journals such as Chemistry – A European Journal and The Journal of Physical Chemistry. Subsequent postdoctoral research included work in nanoparticle photochemistry (University of Ottawa), mesoporous materials for drug delivery (UPV), and graphene–metal hybrids for catalysis (Instituto Técnico de Lisboa). From 2014 to 2020, as part of Prof. Jesús Santamaría’s group (University of Zaragoza), I led projects on photocatalytic nanomaterials for CO₂ conversion and environmental remediation, while contributing to science outreach and editorial activities. In 2020, I joined the University of Leicester to study RNA–protein interactions using single-molecule spectroscopy and mass photometry. In my last position I was Senior Research Scientist at Crop Intellect Ltd. (UK), leading R&D on photocatalytic technologies for greenhouse gas mitigation in agriculture, combining analytical science, innovation, and sustainability-driven research.
