Profile Summary

I am currently working as a post-doctoral research associate, at the institute of cell biology, Bern. As a part of this job, I am working towards writing a manuscript suitable for scientific publication of the results obtained from my PhD study. I have achieved a PhD degree in neurobiology from the institute of cell biology, Bern. The aim of my research was to characterize the poorly understood mechanisms that lead to the dysfunction of one of the most important respiratory muscle-diaphragm, in severe form of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. To accomplish this, I investigated not only the neuro-muscular circuitry but also the motoneuron circuitry. Since this was a new field of study in my lab, I can say that I have independently orchestrated this project and set-up new techniques in my laboratory. A part of my research was already published in the second year of my PhD study. Through my research in this field, I have developed a keen interest in various neuromuscular and motor neuron diseases. Prior to this, I was working as a postgraduate research assistant at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Oxford. The project I was working on was aimed at identifying the protein interacting partners of the transcription factor-Cited2. This project enabled me to gain expertise in mouse genetics, bioinformatics tools and molecular biology techniques. I also developed time management and team working skills as I was working on different projects headed by four post doctoral research fellows in the laboratory. During my Masters programme at the University of Leicester, I worked on a seven month research project which provided me with a strong background of RNA biology. I was awarded 100% marks for my dedication, hard work and contribution to this project by my supervisor.
