Profile Summary

I always found so much joy in creativity in my upbringing, but it wasn't until I chose biochemistry & molecular biology that I knew what the joy of discovery truly felt like. Then, in college, my peers and I thought, "why don't we create a non-addictive opioid?" and that led to my first peer-reviewed scientific publication. When I graduated, I was immediately invited to join the staff at Chapman University as an Adjunct Lab Instructor to continue sharing the joy of discovery with the rising generation of biochemists & molecular biologists. I now teach 2 courses, BCHM 436: Molecular Genetics Lab with Dr. Melissa Rowland-Goldsmith, and BIOL 208: Introduction to Molecular Genetics Lab, where I manage over 40-60 students in a lab setting each week. Over the last year I've advised research projects on differential gene expression in metastatic pancreatic cancer, as well as taught fundamental concepts such as DNA/RNA extraction and purification, molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, and various types of polymerase chain reactions. Along with my teaching, I also currently serve as a Research Associate to Dr. Cecilia Zurita-Lopez and Dr. Marco Bisoffi, where I and a group of other researchers are investigating the possible implication of genetic alterations in metastatic breast cancer.
