Profile Summary

I am available for medical writing and illustrations, genetic analyses, clinical genetic variant interpretation and curation, forensic genetic consultancy, writing clinical and technical reports or scientific manuscripts, preparing scientific communication material. Other possible projects may be discussed.

I am a biologist with a PhD in Genetics and experience in medical writing and illustrations. At the moment I am a researcher in Population Health at ICVS, Braga, Portugal. Previously I worked at Ipatimup, Porto, Portugal, where I participated in several projects in the field of Population and Forensic Genetics. As a result of my research, I have published over 25 papers in international journals or conference proceedings and I made more than 10 oral presentations, half of them as invited speaker, and I developed a sense for optimizing procedures and improving methodologies. I also worked as a Genetics technician at Ipatimup diagnostics, an accredited and certified genetic diagnostics laboratory, where I implemented diagnostic tests for genetic disorders and performed routine forensic genetics analyses and parentage testing. Here I performed laboratory work, data analysis and interpretation, and wrote clinical and technical reports and procedures. As a personal project, I maintained a blog about genetics for lay audiences, in Portuguese, which includes original graphics and illustrations.

During my past activities, I have developed a large number of important skills, such as strong organization capabilities, very good communication skills in Portuguese, English and Spanish. I am acquiring coding skills (R), and I am used to producing teaching material, making oral presentations and designing posters to communicate results. I have experience in medical illustrations and have recently joined the European Association of Medical Writers.
