Profile Summary

As a policy researcher, I have led evaluation, assessment, and other research projects that inform and guide policies and procedures at both the county level and the state level. This includes formulating research questions, designs, and time frames and determining methodologies, sampling methods, data collection methods, and data analysis methods. I lead the implementation of the projects, the data collection, the data analysis, and then the writing of the appropriate reports, briefings, and memos about the projects, as well as toolkits and policy briefings about topics related to criminal and juvenile justice and human trafficking. I also perform technical assistance and consulting services in local courts and work with third parties (consultants, contractors, etc.) to assist local courts. I write briefings and reports on topics that are of interest to the California courts and its stakeholders in the juvenile and criminal justice arena, particularly in the areas of human trafficking and smuggling, and present data reports and research studies at conferences and other meetings. I provide staff support to statewide advisory committees and task forces. In addition, I respond to urgent, time-sensitive requests from policy makers and media from around the state and country. I research, write sections for, and review grants and grant applications, as well as design and conduct training and educational sessions on specific topics of interest for judicial officers and other court stakeholders, particularly in the areas of juvenile justice and sex and labor trafficking. I also spent many years as an adjunct professor.
