I was recently involved in a feasibility study regarding the design and synthesis of silica- and chitosan-based nanoparticles for novel applications such as targeted exothermic reactions and water purification. My work involved adapting literature preparations to suit novel applications and harsh environments, synthesising composite nanoparticles and designing experimental procedures for testing the behaviour of the resulting particles.Previously completed a projects concerned (1) corrosion protection and self-healing of nano-composite coatings on aluminium 2024 and steel substrates and (2) Application of Radical Methodology to the Synthesis of Sugar-containing Polymers.
