Profile Summary

I obtained my BSc in chemistry from the University of Barcelona in 2006 and then obtained a PhD at the Technical University of Catalonia in Materials Science in 2011, more specifically in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. I developed intensive physic chemical and biological analysis of novel biomaterials. During my PhD I had the opportunity to stay for 1 year in Harvard-MIT to further understand the behavior of collagen containing materials thanks to a scholarship from the Spanish government. After my PhD, I moved to South Korea (2011-2013), studying different types of biomaterials for the regeneration of different tissues, including bone, neural, and liver tissue among others. I then moved to Ireland to perform research in the field of liver tissue engineering (2013). I then moved to Canada to perform research on tissue engineering as well and learned in depth in vitro reactors for tissue engineering as well as the extraction of cells from different tissues. I then moved back to South Korea to become an Assistant Professor, until 2016. Since September 2016, I joined UIC to start my own research group in Biomaterials. My research is based on the regeneration of damaged tissues through the design of novel biomaterials. Due to the complexity of tissues, my research includes different fields such as chemistry, biology, pharmacy, medicine or dentistry.
