Profile Summary

Hello! My name is Nyri Bakkalian. I hold a PhD in Japanese military history from the University of Pittsburgh (class of August 2017). While my training is in political and military history, my research interests and expertise stretches beyond them. I've written about women in warfare and early American travelers in Japan, published memoir essays and short stories, studied the systems of administration for theater professionals in early modern Japan, translated portions of a previously untranslated 17th century Japanese biography, and I'm currently investigating aspects of local religious history and customs in northern Japan. I am also trilingual, and welcome your communications in English, Հայերէն (Արեւմտահայերէն), and 日本語. My first novel is forthcoming next year.
