Profile Summary

• Who am I? I am an experienced and goal-oriented Psychology teacher (Psychology degree from the renowned University of St Andrews in Scotland) and researcher with an MPhil (Cambridge University) and a PhD (University of Manchester) in Criminological Research. I currently tutor students in Psychology at the level of high-school, undergraduate and PhD. I am also building a career as a wedding photographer. Last but not least, I work as a Community Engagement Officer and Dementia Trainer in my husband’s company providing care at home to vulnerable people in the area. • My experience I have 8 years of academic research experience in the fields of Criminology and Psychology. Thanks to the research journey at Cambridge University followed by Manchester University, I am skilled in conducting research based on interviews and questionnaires from A to Z, including preparing an application to the University Ethics Board, recruiting sample participants, developing questions for the interview, collecting and analysing the data (thematic analysis, content analysis, quantitative data analysis by means of SPSS), writing up in adherence to academic journals’ strict standards and presenting the final product in front of other researchers. Due to the nature of my PhD – researching desistance patterns from gang membership amongst urban youth in London, I am particularly specialised in areas of youth delinquency including youth gangs, desistance from crime and rehabilitation of offenders in the community. Since my research skills are transferable, the project does not have to be Criminology or Psychology related – I am a keen learner so would welcome work on projects, where I could learn a thing or two and self-develop! I have been a Psychology teacher and tutor for almost 5 years now. Over the past few years, I had worked with several leading independent sixth-form colleges in London (e.g. Ashbourne) as well as at Francis Holland Regent's Park London - an all-girls school. I have been particularly praised for my understanding of cultural sensitivities and the ability to build trusting relationships with students of varying background, age or education. I am a strong believer in that “the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited” (Plutarch). I always strive not only to share knowledge but also to build up confidence of a young individual and to help him/ her discover the joy of learning. It is not only about me doing my best so my tutee can excel academically, but it is about the entire learning process that I believe I can make creative, inspiring and enriching. I believe in every young person I work with, that with adequate support everyone is able to progress and grow. Through my work as a teacher and tutor, I have become proficient in delivering study content, teaching study skills and importantly, proofread and edited multiple assignments from A-level Extended Projects, through undergraduate and master’s level essays and lab reports, to dissertations (undergraduate, master’s and PhD). Finally, I have also supported students in preparing university applications (successful!) to a number of established British Universities including Edinburgh, Bath, Exeter and so on. The experience of being a researcher and a teacher (working with students in different settings and of different abilities) has translated into my unique ability of being able to present complex ideas to diverse audiences. • What you can expect If you are in search of somebody who will timely deliver high-quality, thought through and creative work, where attention to detail, critical insight and depth of research are evident, I am your girl! I won’t be a good fit really if the job is just about sifting through a bunch of things and collecting some data, because my skills allow me to deliver much more.
