Profile Summary

I am a mathematician with a strong inclination toward data science. My academic background and research interests revolve around Moment Problems, Optimization, Real Algebraic Geometry, Functional Analysis and Cryptography, which are firmly interconnected. The Maze begins somewhere on the crossover of Real Algebraic Geometry and Functional Analysis, spins off towards the General Moment Problem and then Optimization. I have always been interested in Cryptography and was able to contribute to the academic front of research on Homomorphic Encryption systems and computation over encrypted data. Currently, I am working as a Senior Scientist- Mathematician for the Edmonton Police Service, Canada, modelling internal processes of EPS in search of improvements to serve the citizens as effectively as possible. Previously, I worked as a data scientist for the Government of Saskatchewan, Canada, performing predictive analytics for the Child Welfare and Corrections and Justice systems. To maximize the efficiency of the tools I use for work, I apply my knowledge about Optimization to find optimal machine learning pipelines for my daily projects. The automized procedure has been published as a python package that uses Surrogate Optimization and Evolutionary optimization methods to get the job done (https://github.com/mghasemi/sksurrogate). I have been involved in machine learning research projects involving typical machine learning algorithms, including deep neural networks, and continue collaborating with my colleagues worldwide. Any problem involving data, statistical analysis, Optimization and machine learning potentially captures my attention.
