Profile Summary

I am a science communicator and research scientist working to better understand how we can effectively communicate research and conservation efforts to broader audiences. I enjoy working alongside scientists and non-profit organizations to generate new platforms in informal learning environments that can be used to communicate science to the general public and connect society to the people behind the research being conducted. I believe that effective science communication directly contributes to local communities’ understanding of not only what is going on with a particular project but also the scientific process through which the data is generated and analyzed. Currently, I am seeking opportunities that will allow me to continue to work in science education and alongside researchers to communicate their work to others. My specific fields of interest include developing and promoting platforms in informal learning environments, communicating conservation efforts, data analytics and visualization, coral reef ecology, and scientific research diving. My colleagues would describe me as a resourceful individual that can quickly adapt to situations with limited resources to achieve project objectives. As a field educator, I offer the following workshops: (1) Using informal learning environments to supplement traditional classroom experiences in science education (focus on marine education) (2) Not a scientist: Communicating science to general audiences (3) 3D modeling of underwater habitats (4) Scientific Research Diving/Citizen Science Diver (5) Coral Reef Ecology and Survey Techniques I also offer recreational scuba diving courses as a certified NAUI Instructor. As a Professional Affiliate, I can also source dive equipment from Edge-HOG upon request. As a science communicator and expedition photographer, I work with scientists and non-profit organizations to document terrestrial-, freshwater-, and marine-based scientific research activities in various environments.
