Profile Summary

I am an applied mathematician and a multi-disciplinarian by education, training and trade; fundamentally I am good at and love solving problems. By this statement, I mean that I have spent the majority of my academic and professional career using mathematical modelling techniques of various descriptions to a number of different applications in a diverse selection of fields. I am experienced in the analytical and numerical solutions to PDEs in order to simulate physical phenomena. I have written simulation programmes from first principles in order to understand the complex gas and surface phase chemical interactions in synthetic diamond production. I have extensively used molecular modelling techniques, both quantum and classical, to elucidate reaction mechanisms in diamond growth. All of this simulation was done with the goal of making predictions in the real physical world. After my first stint in academia I moved to Data Science in the insurance industry where I used my analytical mind set, knowledge of statistics, research skills and an ability to learn quickly to find improvements in business processes and pricing structures using all of the company data I had available. I have since taken my data science skills to health sector where I manage the data management, provision, and analysis capabilities of a charity that specialises in online self-reported health outcomes. I conduct a research program were I analysis a large longitudinal data set using traditional techniques of biostatistics and more moderne machine learning methods to help understand how treatment, modifiable risk factors, and co-morbidities affect overall disease risks and morbidities.
