Profile Summary

I’m a experienced interdisciplinary scientist, science communicator, creative media content producer, and former NDSEG Fellow with a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University, specializing in biophysics. For my doctoral work, I imaged, quantified, and modeled the heat shock stress response in C. elegans using microfluidics and fluorescence microscopy. This work involved creating an image analysis workflow to rapidly analyze 3000+ frames of data per experiment as well as developing a minimal mathematical model to explore the spatial and temporal modes of activation of the heat shock stress response. My coding experience has primarily been in MATLAB and Mathematica, but I also have limited experience with Java, FORTRAN, LaTeX, Python, LabPro, and Root.

As an interdisciplinary scientist, I pride myself on my ability to connect concepts across disciplines – both within and beyond the hard sciences. My unique background in physics, biology, and the visual and performing arts makes me especially passionate about science communication, education, art, and outreach, and I strive to find new ways to explain complex scientific ideas in a clear and engaging manner.

Currently, I'm working with The Health Museum in Houston, TX to develop their fall exhibit and associated educational materials. Previously, I’ve interned at PBS NOVA, freelance written for Harvard’s online publication Science in the News, and organized ComSciCon, a national science communication workshop for graduate students. In addition, I have freelance fact-checking and referencing experience for pop science books. I’ve also developed educational materials and a variety of programming in conjunction with the Learning Lab at the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning and the Graduate Commons Program, both at Harvard.
