Earlier I have worked as a Young Scientist Awardee at Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bengaluru, India, wherein I worked on “Understanding the role of Nuclear and Nucleic acid binding proteins in ciliary signaling and cell division”. I have successfully identified two important ciliary proteins, RuvBL1 and TPPP and determined their role in cilia formation and cell division using ciliated model systems, Human Retinal pigment epithelial cells (hTERT-RPE1) and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.  Apart from above mentioned research I had also worked on research programme involving “Isolation and characterization of indigenous micro algae with improved Biofuel production efficacy”. As a part of the research programme, we established microtitre plate based large scale screening platforms for lipid efficacy as well as growth, through which we had characterized several new strains of micro algae from environmental resources that can produce high amounts of TAG. We also studied biofuel production capabilities of several laboratory strains/mutants of model green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. We also analyzed the lipid biosynthesis pathway to identify target genes through computational approaches. Before I worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Yale University, USA, wherein I worked on a couple of research projects involving “Identification of new ciliary tip proteins” and “characterization of new transition zone components” using human retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE1) and Chlamydomonas as model systems. I did my Ph.D. from University of North Bengal, West Bengal, India. During my Ph.D, I worked on “Characterization of Entomopathogenic microbials as Biopesticides against Lepidopteran tea pests” where we have identified several novel bacterial and viral entomopathogens of tea pests and assayed their bio-activity against Lepidopteran tea pests.
