Profile Summary

I thrive at the cutting-edge of life sciences and protein science R&D, in which I can push through the unknown, break through, and produce value in the form of knowledge that can empower technologies to improve the human condition. I prefer grand-challenge problems and “moonshot” concepts in this regard. I am most at home in “the darkness”, or the pure unknown or barely understood systems, and enjoy connecting observables with underlying physical principles. My specific aptitude is in problem-solving and analytical thinking, paired with quantitation and the “wet-dry” cycle of hypothesis and experiment.

To these ends I am a master researcher in the life sciences with numerous degrees and broad experience. I have four degrees, three including mathematics (B.S.), biology (B.S.), and molecular biophysics (Ph.D.), in which I excelled as a returning adult student. I have a wealth of other experience from numerous jobs and travels, that empower my work. I was a post-doc at Penn for several years, in which I broke through on several very ambitious projects requiring method development. From undergraduate to industry labs I have worked on every form of life, from plants, bacteria, and frogs to fungi and even live human tumors.  I have studied systems using statistics, image analysis and AI, thermodynamics, kinetics, structure and first-principles as well as purely empirical considerations (black boxes). I am capable of tackling any problem or rapidly assimilating any new method or intellectual area. My mathematical background is the most useful for such pursuits. For my most recent client, in a formal innovation lab, I invented and provided proof-of-concept for a new technology with potentially significant industrial impact for biological separations.
