Profile Summary

I have reasonably broad educational and professional experience conducting analyses relevant to fisheries and water quality as well as statistical analyses in general. I am versed in statistics and it was my minor for my PhD work. Understanding the uncertainty surrounding management questions is central to effective management. Statistical analyses do not produce the “truth” but appropriate use of statistics increases the likelihood that the truth is included in the output and is essential in pursuing actions that are most likely to achieve the intended result. I have utilized various statistical software packages (including R) in both academic and professional environments and am familiar with most common statistical methods. I also have experience with scientific publication. I have participated as lead author or co-author on 25 peer reviewed publications and two book chapters. In these publications I employed standard statistical methods as well as somewhat less common methods such as regression trees and neural networks. In addition, I served as an associate editor for the North American Journal of Fisheries Management for six years and currently serve as a science editor for the journal Fisheries.
